What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a form of Chinese Medicine that has been around for thousands of years. The purpose of acupuncture is to bring the body back to homeostasis (regulation of body). Acupuncture clears the body of toxic ailments, relax the body and promote emotional well-being.
All these wonderful benefits of acupuncture are generated by inserting hair-thin needles into specific points to activate meridians in your body. Once the meridians are activated the body will naturally heal itself.
How does Acupuncture work?
Balancing emotions also plays a big role in acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture will regulate your mood, reduce stress and anxiety by slowing down the production of stress hormones and balancing the bodies natural neurochemicals, such as serotonin and dopamine.
Other physiological effects observed through the body include: increased circulation, decreased inflammation and an increase in T-cell count, in which stimulates the immune system.
What is Cupping?
Cupping is a technique I use to promote blood flow and move chi. It revs up the lymphatic system, therefore clears toxins and waste products in the body. It grasps onto the fascia (a layer of connective tissue in which holds muscles in place) causing it to stretch, so it can release tension, adhesions and scar tissue. It grasps the muscles to release tightness, knots and trigger points and improves range of motion. Cupping will leave you feeling loose and relaxed after the treatment.
What is Moxa?
Moxibustion is a technique used in Chinese medicine to heat the body’s tissue, the abdomen, and specific acupuncture points. Stainless steel needles are wonderful heat conductors. By placing heat on the needles the tissue will heat to the depth of the needle inserted. Therefore, heating the tissues, muscles and skeletal system, and not limiting them to a superficial depth.
Moxa is a dried-out herb know as mugwort. It’s grown in various continents including North America and It’s been used through the world for its healing properties and calming properties. Moxa is used in my practice as indirect moxibustion, it is applied about ½ an inch away from the skins surface to get a therapeutic effect.
